I am all for using as many free apps and programs as you can but sometimes you have to put a little money down and pay for a few of these. I have tried out a lot of apps and signed up to a lot of programs, some of them have been great but just not great enough to warrant the costs but there are a few that I spend money on and recommend you do too if you are a social media manager.
Canva – I have been using the free version of Canva for years but I recently signed up to the paid version and it is such a game changer. It allows you to upload your brand identity, set up folders including one for your logos. There are so many more features that it really is worth signing up. But I want to add, it doesn’t take the place of a graphic designer, it simply allows you the ability to design templates and images for your business (and your clients).
Hootsuite – When I started as a Social Media Manager I tried out so many of these platforms. Hootsuite was the one that worked the best for me. The paid version allows you to add up to 50 accounts and with the new updates you can now post directly to Instagram which for me is a game changer. You can connect to Facebook, Facebook groups, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ from Hootsuite which is all the main platforms you will need. It is also the most user friendly of all the platforms, the dashboard just works for me.
Tailwind – This is my current favourite app! It is primarily for Pinterest but they recently added the direct posting to Instagram. Pinterest needs you to be active all the time, the more you are there the more your posts are seen but it can be very time consuming, Tailwind helps to automate the process. You can schedule pins, post to tribes and get feedback on it all. The instagram side of Tailwind is amazing. It suggests hashtags for you to use, it rates them and tells you which ones are the best ones to use. I tried it out on my instagram account and a clients and our engagement, followers and reach increased rather dramatically. The monthly fee isn’t cheap in comparison to what you get on Hootsuite but if Instagram is your best performing sm channel, use this!
Google Drive – I never realised the value of this until I was travelling and left my charger cable at home and had no access to my laptop. A family member lent me a laptop and all I had to do was log in and EVERYTHING was there. Not only is all my worked backed up but I can access it from anywhere, anytime. It also makes sharing with clients so easy. Once I have shared a document with them all I need to do is update it and they will see the updates. I recently upgrade to the 1 TB package and it is the best money I send!
